NinjaCat templates allow you to set the date range for each graph and/or table in your report. The date range options are available in the Properties tab of each widget.
When running a custom report for a client, you may need to show data that is more specific than the options available in the Range section of your widget's properties. Don't worry we have you covered! You can set further date customization settings when generating your custom report.
If you are creating a new report, go to the Reports tab of your NinjaCat account and select "Add Report. If you are updating an existing report, click on the "Action" button next to your selected report and click "Modify Report".
This will bring you to the settings of your report. At the bottom you will see the Advanced Settings tab.
The Advanced Settings tab allows you to customize the date range of your report even further so you can set a specific date range or even set a specific date the report should automatically generate.
Lets say for example, your report is based off a template that has all widget's set to show "Last Month"s data but you only want to show data from the 5th - 23rd of the month. You can still use your existing template that shows last month's data and then under the Advanced Settings section in Reports set the Earliest Reference Date to April 5th, 2015, for example, and the Latest Reference Date to April 23rd, 2015.
Now when the report generates it will only show data from the specific date range you selected in Advanced Settings.
This advanced feature does come with a few important disclaimers you should note:
- The Earliest Reference Date and Lastest Reference Date need to still fit within the date range of your template's widgets. For example if your template's date ranges are all set to Last Month and you set the Earliest and Latest Reference Dates in Advanced Settings to cover the time span of several months, your template will only show data that fits within the template's date range. So if last month is April, and you set the specific Earliest and Latest Reference Dates to days in March, no data will show up in the report.
- Advanced Settings do not carry over for each reporting period. These are 1 off settings specifically designed for special circumstances. If you need a reoccurring report that fits within a specific date range, let us know by clicking on the Support button in the upper right hand corner of your NinjaCat account and we will see if other accommodations can be made for you.
- The Conversion Lag option in Advanced Settings should only be used if you are running week over week reports and need to eliminate the current week to avoid showing partial data.
A Best Practice For Setting Specific Date Ranges
If you plan on utilizing the Advanced Settings tab to set some different specific date ranges in a few reports, it may pay to create a template that has all the date ranges set to show All Time data.
You can also just make a copy of your existing template by clicking on Add Template in the Templates tab and then choosing your existing template from the Copy Existing Template drop down. This will make a copy in which you can then adjust the settings of your template without affecting the original.
Using a template set to All Time for the date ranges will give you the freedom to select which ever date range you need without worrying about your specific reference dates not matching up with the date ranges in your report. You will still need to update your reference dates manually each month even if your template is set to all time data.
